8 Adversities

A term used in Buddhism to refer to rebirth:

in Hell
as a hungry ghost
as an animal
in Uttarakuru (a very pleasant place where there is little motivation to practice the Dharma)
in a long-life heaven (also where one is not motivated)
with a disability
as an intelligent but sceptical person
in the period (like today) between a Buddha and his successor
