Adoptionism

A belief, universally held within the earliest Christian movement, and still active in the 2nd and 3rd century AD, which Jesus was a normal human being, a prophet, who was born as any other human, and is not a deity.

Adoptionism taught that Jesus was only a human who was adopted by God and elevated because of His obedience He was not the second person of the Godhead, who was eternally co-existent with the Father. Adoptionism was declared a heresy by a number of early church councils.
