Anno Domini (AD)

Latin for: Year of our Lord.

A dating method used to show the relative number of years after the birth of Christ. In reality, Jesus was born probably in the autumn of a year between 4 and 7 BC.

CE (an acronym for the religiously neutral term 'common era') is sometimes used to replace AD.
