Armageddon

Composed of two words 'Har-Magedon', meaning 'the mountain of the congregation'.

The last battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil in which humans, angels and God are involved. It is mentioned in the book of Revelation in association with the millennium. There are two distinct beliefs about the Battle of Armageddon.

1. It is a human war fought on earth (before the millennium) in the area of Israel on the plain of Meggido. It is possibly a nuclear war fought between Israel, Russia and China.

2. It is a battle after the end of the millennium in which the forces of evil attack the city of God and fire from God destroys them. The preparation started before the millennium and is interrupted by the Second Coming. The city of God (the New Jerusalem) had come straight from heaven and landed on the spot at the Mount of Olives in Israel. The final judgment had just been announced and this action is a final effort to take the kingdom by force. No fighting is done by anyone on God's side. God alone protects His people when they are attacked.
