Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

A Roman Catholic holy day that commemorates the Virgin Mary's death and direct ascension to heaven.

The Catholic Church made a declaration on 1st November that the Virgin Mary's body and soul directly ascended to heaven. Although this event does not appear in the Bible, it was argued that Jesus would not have allowed his mother's body to decay in the earth.
