Baptism by Proxy for the Dead
A procedure that was employed among some Christian groups during the second century AD, but is now followed by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints (the Mormons).
They believe that living members can be baptised by proxy for their ancestors who have died without knowing the Mormon doctrine. These people are in Spirit Prison. The dead person can obtain full salvation if they accept the Mormon beliefs while in the Spirit Prison. In this prison of the dead, people can still be converted.
