Canonisation of Dead Saints

The official act of the Roman Catholic Church that declared that a dead person is now officially a saint in heaven. Those worthy to receive this honour are those who had an extraordinary life of works, sacrifice and known miracles attributed to them.

Canonisation does not 'make' someone a saint: it is only a declaration that the person is a saint and was a saint even before canonisation.
