Civil Religion

A set of religious beliefs shared by most citizens about the sacred nature, ideals, character, and meanings of their country, along with its blessedness by God, and its special place and role in the world and in human history.

The term was created by Jean-Jacques Rousseau in his writing 'The Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right' in 1762.
