Confessionalism

A term that is used to describe a faith group in which each member is expected to adhere fully to the group's entire belief system. No dissent is allowed. The Amish might be regarded as a good example of confessionalism.

Those congregations affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association might be regarded as an opposite extreme; they encourage and expect diversity of belief.
