Gap Theory

There are two separate theories known as the 'gap theory'.

The Gap Theory of Creation

The belief that there is a large interval of time between the first and second verses in the book of Genesis.

By insertion of a gap at this point, Genesis is brought more closely into harmony with the conclusions of the vast majority of biological and earth scientists who believe that Evolution is a fact and that the earth is about 4.5 billion years old.

The Gap Theory of the Second Coming

The gap is the time between the crucifixion and seven years before the Second Coming. Beliefs about it arise from the seventieth week of the prophesies of Daniel 9: 27 that are separated from the first 69 weeks by this time period. It has been interrupted by the 2000 year 'gap' of the Christian dispensation. The final week will occur as a seven year period of tribulation just before the end. The Jewish dispensation begins again.
