Gnostics

The belief that matter is evil, deliverance from material form is only through special knowledge revealed by special Gnostic teachers.

In this belief, the unknowable, perfect and pure God generated lesser divinities to deal with the material universe. Evil came when one of these lesser beings (named Wisdom) attempted to know God. He and others have kept humans and the material world in bondage trying to prevent the pure spirit souls from ascending back to god after the death of the physical bodies.

Christ was the divine redeemer, a special Gnostic teacher, who came from the spiritual realm to reveal the knowledge necessary for our redemption.
