Jehovah's Witnesses

Originally an American Fundamentalist Christian denomination organised by Charles Taze Russell during the 1870s, it has since spread worldwide.

Witnesses believe that there is a difference between Christianity and Christendom. They define Christendom as the part of the world where Christianity prevails, largely, the Western world. They claim that, as a whole, these nations fail to live by the Bible, thus misrepresenting Christ and his teachings. Based on this reasoning, Jehovah's Witnesses claim they alone practise true Christianity.

Members are expected to volunteer significant amounts of time to proselytize in their communities by going door-to-door. Their German members were heavily persecuted during the Nazi Holocaust; thousands were exterminated.
