Months or calendars calculated by the movement of the moon round the earth. For example, Hinduism adjusts the lunar calendar to keep in with the solar calendar by instituting extra months.

The only widely used purely lunar calendar is the Islamic calendar, whose year always consists of 12 lunar months.
