Maimonides

Also known as the Rambam.

A rabbi, physician, and philosopher in the Middle Ages. He was born in Spain in 1135, but persecution forced his exile to Morocco and then Egypt where he became physician to the Vizier of Saladin and leader of the Jewish community. Today, his works and his views are considered a cornerstone of Jewish thought and study.
