Mezuzah

Literally, 'doorpost'.

A term used in Judaism to describe a container attached to door posts in a house that contains parchment scroll with words from the Torah (portions of the shema). The most common verses are Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21. A devout Jew touches or kisses their mezuzah when entering or leaving their house.
