1. Secular meaning: the beginning of a year ending in '001' (as in '2001'). However, the majority popular approach is to treat the end of the year 'x999' (e.g. 1999) as the end of a millennium.

2. Religious meaning: an interval of 1,000 years after Armageddon when, according to Revelation, Jesus Christ will rule on earth.
