The Joyful Mysteries

Events related to the birth of Jesus.

  • The Annunciation: Gabriel announced the birth.
  • The Visitation: Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth in the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy.
  • The Birth (of Jesus Christ).
  • The Presentation: Simeon saw the infant in the temple at His circumcision.
  • The Finding in the Temple: Jesus at the age of 12, when he was lost by His parents.

The Sorrowful Mysteries

Events related to the crucifixion.

  • The Agony in the Garden: The Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus sweats blood.
  • The Scourging at the Pillar: Jesus was beaten.
  • The Crown of Thorns: A crown of thorns was placed on his head to mock the claim that he was king.
  • Carrying the Cross: Jesus carried the cross on the way to his crucifixion.
  • The Crucifixion: The death of Jesus.

The Glorious Mysteries

Events after the Resurrection

  • The Resurrection: Jesus rose from the dead.
  • The Ascension: Jesus went to heaven.
  • The Holy Ghost at Pentecost: The descent of the Holy Spirit.
  • The Assumption of Mary: The belief that she rose bodily into heaven.
  • The Coronation of Mary: As queen of heaven and earth.
