Purim

A term used in Judaism to describe a festival celebrating the saving of the Jews from the first recorded attempt at genocide or shoah. These Jews of the ancient Persian Empire were delivered from Haman's plot to annihilate them, as recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther (Megillat Esther).
