Real Presence

Among Lutherans

They believe that the body and blood of Christ are 'truly and substantially present in, with and under' the bread and wine. This is based on Martin Luther's belief in consubstantiation; that Jesus body and blood coexist with bread and wine.

Among Roman Catholics

The belief that the bread and wine at the Eucharist are transubstantiated (transformed) by the Holy Spirit into Jesus' actual body and blood through its belief in transubstantiation; the priest performs a miracle by recreating Jesus' flesh and blood.
