Zionism

Derived from 'Zion,' an ancient Hebrew name for Jerusalem.

A movement created during the 1860s and 1870s in Europe to create a homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine. Some religious Zionists believe that this would fulfil biblical prophecy and trigger the coming of the millennium and the arrival of the Messiah.
